Our Special Christmas Appeal - The Brain Lab

This festive season we are asking supporters to help us provide a very special piece of equipment for our Neurology patients at the hospital.

The Brain Lab, which will cost £170,000 will benefit children with many neurological conditions such as brain tumours by helping to guide surgeons more easily to the seat of the problem. it's a bit like a navigation system. When they are operating it will give very precise information on the position of the tumour and help to guide them to the pin-point area where they need to work. Currently these operations are carried out at the Western General, but by purchasing this equipment we will ensure that children from all over the East of Scotland requiring brain surgery like the removal of a tumour, receive the best possible care here in a child-friendly environment. This new kit will ensure that our patients benefit from state-of-the-art technology, increasing information to the surgeons carrying out these highly intricate procedures and reducing the size of excision and length of time needed for such operations.
